We thank you for your interest in our organization and supporting children and adolescents with cancer. Candlelighters' goal is to ensure that wherever a child is being treated for cancer, they will have the wealth of experience and support that only Candlelighters can bring.
Becoming a Candlelighters' affiliate requires a commitment to ensuring that kids can't fight cancer alone. By starting an affiliate in your area, you will be joining forces with 50,000 families and 40 affiliates across the country who share your commitment.
You will need a team of dedicated individuals who understand the unique challenges faced by a childhood and/or adolescent cancer diagnosis. Your team can be parents of children with cancer, survivors of childhood cancer, medical professionals, friends and extended family members, and individuals from your community at large who want to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer. A majority involvement on your board with voting responsibilites from parents/survivors/family members is required to ensure that Candlelighters remains true to its founding principles.
Since all Candlelighters affiliates are independent 501(c)3 non-profit organizations, there is a great deal of flexibility in running your organization. We require a high degree of integrity and commitment to serving children and adolescents with cancer and their families. Years of experience from the National Candlelighters and Candlelighters' affiliates across the country are available to you should your affiliate application be accepted.
To get started, contact the Affiliate Liaison, Anne Spurgeon through the National Candlelighters office or by emailing her at: anne@capcan.org. You will need to know what geographical area you wish to serve since we do not allow affiliates to overlap service areas. We can then assess what your next steps should be. We look forward to hearing from you.
